Nokia is likely announce a deal that will give tech firm Oracle’s customers access to the Finnish mobile maker’s mapping service, says a report.

The deal is seen by Nokia executives as a new way of significantly expanding the firm’s mapping services, which compete head to head with Google.

Oracle, meanwhile, will tout the move as an easy way for customers to use Nokia”s maps to integrate consistent and broad mapping capabilities into Oracle applications, The Wall Street Journal reports.

According to the paper, the deal, which will be announced today at the OracleWorld conference in San Francisco, was confirmed by a Nokia spokeswoman on Sunday.

Recently, Nokia announced mapping deals with Groupon and Amazon, which dropped Google Maps in favor of Nokia”s data.

According to the paper, because Oracle largely sells to enterprises, not customers, Nokia”s deal could help the Finnish handset maker introduce its mapping technology to a new channel of users.

Nokia executives see this as an important step in expanding the appeal and capability of its maps, the paper said.
