White surpasses silver as most popular car colour

The colour white has become the most popular colour for a car after silver remained at top for a decade.

In an annual survey conducted by paint company PPG, 21 percent of vehicles built in 2011 were white, whereas black and silver tied at second with 20 percent each.

As carmakers tailor their colours to consumer demand, white was the top colour in North America, while black was first in Europe and silver voted most popular in Asia.

PPG Industries Inc. is also offering other shades for future cars, which include Pot O’ Gold, a light green with a hint of gold; White Nougat, a creamy, sparkly white; and Grape Spritz, a blue fused with purple.

PPG forecasts colour trends based on fashion, interior design and other factors, Fox News reported.
