Nov 2 : A Mumbai based clinical diagnostic firm has decided to tap the lucrative overseas market and is in discussion to acquire a diagnostic lab chain in the UK.
The Rs.1500 million revenue clinical diagnostic company Metropolis Health Services (I) Limited is also targeting the Middle East, South African and the US markets.
“Metropolis would set up sample collection centres in the US which in turn would be shipped to Mumbai,” Dr. G. S. K.Velu, managing director, said here Friday.
He said it takes days to get the lab test report in the US.
“At our Mumbai laboratory, we would test the US samples and send the report fast.”
“There is an outsourcing opportunity to test 2 million samples a year. We will position our services not on lower cost but on faster turn-around. We also plan to offer tele-pathology services,” Velu added.
“The company is discussing the acquisition of a diagnostic lab chain in the UK,” Velu said.
Metropolis has chalked out plans to open 20 more labs in the Middle East.
Velu added the company will also open labs in South East Asian countries, including Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.
In India, Metropolis intends to increase its lab network by 54, taking the total to 100 by 2008 and plans to add radiology services to its portfolio.
On Thursday, the firm signed an agreement with city based Star Clinics, a chain of clinics promoted by Star Health and Medical Tourism Ltd, to set up labs in multi speciality clinics.(IANS)
